Joe Chila
SURROGATE

Joe leads the Surrogate Court with care and compassion to help residents who have lost loved ones.

 

Joe has served over 20 years in various capacities in local, county, and state appointed governmental positions. Prior to serving as Surrogate, he served 12 years on the Board of Commissioners, 7 of which he served as Deputy Commissioner Director. Additionally, Joe served as Mayor of Woolwich Township, a member of the Swedesboro/Woolwich Board of Education, and he is a former New Jersey Pinelands Commissioner.

 

As the former Commissioner Deputy Director and Liaison to Veterans Affairs, Joe ensured that veterans received the support and services they deserve. He was an active participant in “The Wall of Heroes” project, a gallery of artistic renderings that honored fallen Gloucester County’s men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Representing Gloucester County, Joe:

  • Ensured that veterans receive the support and services they deserve

  • Secured major upgrades to Gloucester County’s first responder communication system so that police, fire, and ambulance have the tools necessary to protect public safety

  • Helped establish cost-saving shared services, including Gloucester County’s award-winning Emergency Medical Services and 911 emergency dispatch

Joe is a lifelong resident of Gloucester County and currently resides in Woolwich Township and has two Sons, Domenic and Michael.
